Job Title: School Premises Assistant Location: Primary School, Enfield
Start Date: As soon as possible
Hours:

  • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 7:00am – 12:00pm
  • Wednesday: 7:00am – 6:00pm

Must hold enhanced DBS on the update service

Job Purpose To support the smooth, safe, and effective operation of the school premises by carrying out caretaking, maintenance, security, and health and safety duties. The Premises Assistant will help ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for pupils, staff, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities Site Security & Safety

  • Open and secure the school site daily, including unlocking and locking buildings and gates
  • Monitor site security and report any concerns
  • Ensure fire safety procedures are followed, including alarm testing and maintaining clear exits

Maintenance & Repairs

  • Carry out basic repairs and maintenance tasks (e.g. minor plumbing, painting, furniture repairs)
  • Report and liaise with contractors regarding larger maintenance issues
  • Set up and clear away rooms for school activities and events

Health & Safety

  • Support compliance with health and safety regulations
  • Carry out regular site checks and risk assessments
  • Ensure the playground and outdoor areas are safe for use

Grounds & Cleaning Support

  • Assist with maintaining school grounds, including litter picking and minor gardening tasks
  • Support cleaning staff where required, especially during the school day

General Duties

  • Assist staff with practical tasks as required
  • Respond promptly to emergencies or urgent site issues
  • Maintain records related to premises and health & safety where necessary

Person Specification Essential

  • Practical maintenance or caretaking experience
  • Good understanding of health and safety procedures
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative
  • Reliable, punctual, and flexible
  • Good communication skills

Desirable

  • Previous experience working in a school or similar environment
  • Knowledge of COSHH and fire safety procedures
  • Basic DIY or trade skills
