Location: Lambeth, South London
Pay: £95–£110 per day (PAYE options available)
Start Date: ASAP / September Start
Contract: Full-time | Long-term

Are you a compassionate and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant looking to make a real difference in the lives of young children with additional needs?

Our education recruitment agency is working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Lambeth to recruit a dedicated Reception / Year 1 SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils within the school’s specialist Autism Resource Base.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with experience supporting children with Autism (ASC/ASD) or other Special Educational Needs, or for graduates looking to build a career in education, psychology, speech and language therapy, or child development. Autism bases typically provide structured, specialist support while helping pupils access mainstream learning where appropriate.

The Role

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for Reception and Year 1 pupils with Autism.
  • Support children’s communication, social interaction and emotional regulation.
  • Deliver sensory and play-based learning activities.
  • Implement visual timetables, PECS, Makaton or other communication strategies where appropriate.
  • Work closely with teachers, the SENCO and therapists to deliver personalised learning programmes.
  • Encourage independence, confidence and positive behaviour throughout the school day.
  • Support personal care where required.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Experience working with children with Autism or SEN in a school, nursery or care setting.
  • Patient, resilient and nurturing approach.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Understanding of EYFS and KS1 is desirable.
  • Relevant qualifications (Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant or equivalent) are advantageous but not essential.
  • Graduates in Psychology, Education or related subjects are encouraged to apply.
