Your responsibilities will include:

  • Using British Sign Language (BSL) to facilitate communication, interaction and access to learning.
  • Supporting a pupil with complex needs, including assisting with communication, social development and emotional regulation.
  • Supporting PEG feeding in accordance with the pupil’s individual care plan, school policies and appropriate training.
  • Assisting with personal care and other daily living needs where required.
  • Adapting classroom activities to support engagement, participation and progress across the EYFS curriculum.
  • Working collaboratively with the class teacher, SENCO, healthcare professionals and other support staff.
  • Promoting independence, dignity, safety and positive learning experiences throughout the school day.

The Ideal Candidate

To be considered for this role, you will ideally have:

  • BSL Level 1 or Level 2, with the confidence to use signing to support a young child’s communication.
  • Previous experience supporting children of Reception age within a primary school, nursery or specialist SEN setting.
  • Experience supporting children with complex needs, communication difficulties or disabilities.
  • Experience with PEG feeding, or a willingness to undertake the appropriate training before carrying out the procedure.
  • A willingness to undertake personal care duties where required.
  • A calm, patient and compassionate approach, with the ability to build trusting relationships with young children.
  • A strong understanding of safeguarding, pupil welfare and inclusive practice.
