Post-16 SEN Teacher – Kingston upon Thames

An independent SEN school in Kingston upon Thames is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Post-16 Teacher to provide full-time cover within their specialist provision.

This is an excellent opportunity for a teacher with experience working with SEN students at KS2 or KS3 level who is confident adapting learning to meet a wide range of individual needs. The role focuses on helping Post-16 students develop their literacy and numeracy skills through practical, functional and real-life applications, rather than relying solely on traditional classroom-based teaching.

You will be responsible for delivering engaging lessons that help students develop greater independence and confidence, linking core skills to everyday situations and preparing them for life beyond school.
The Role:

• Teach and support Post-16 students within a specialist SEN setting
• Deliver practical and engaging literacy and numeracy sessions
• Apply English and maths skills to real-life and functional situations
• Adapt lessons and resources to meet individual learning needs
• Support students with additional needs, including communication, learning and behavioural needs
• Work closely with support staff to provide consistent and individualised support
• Promote independence, confidence and engagement in learning
• Maintain a positive, structured and supportive classroom environment

The School is Looking for:

• A qualified teacher with relevant teaching experience
• Experience working with SEN students, ideally within KS2, KS3 or a specialist setting
• Confidence adapting lessons for students with a range of additional needs
• A practical and flexible approach to teaching
• Strong classroom management and communication skills
• Someone who can build positive relationships with students and encourage engagement
• A teacher who is patient, resilient and committed to helping young people achieve their potential
