Working Pattern: Monday–Friday | 08:30 – 16:00

Pay: Competitive daily rate, dependent on experience

Are you a graduate looking for flexible, rewarding work supporting children with Special Educational Needs?Pertemps Education Network is recruiting Graduate SEN Teaching Assistants to work across a range of primary and specialist schools in South London.

This is an ideal opportunity for Psychology, Education, Childhood Studies, Speech and Language, Sociology or related graduates who want to gain valuable experience working with children with additional needs while maintaining flexibility around their studies, career plans or other commitments.

We have opportunities ranging from part-time and day-to-day work through to longer-term placements, allowing you to choose the type of work that best suits you.

As a Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant, you could be supporting pupils across mainstream primary schools, specialist provisions and SEN settings.

Depending on the school and individual pupil’s needs, your responsibilities may include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with additional needs.
  • Supporting children with autism, ADHD, SEMH, speech and language needs and learning difficulties.
  • Helping pupils develop communication, confidence, independence and social skills.
  • Supporting children to access the curriculum through differentiated activities and personalised strategies.
  • Promoting positive behaviour and helping pupils manage emotions and transitions.
  • Using visual supports, structured routines and communication strategies where appropriate.
  • Supporting pupils during lessons, break times, lunch and wider school activities.
  • Working closely with teachers, SENCOs and other education professionals.
  • Providing a calm, consistent and encouraging presence for pupils who may require additional support.

This role is particularly well suited to graduates considering future careers in:

Previous experience with children or SEN is advantageous but not always essential. We are interested in graduates who can demonstrate patience, empathy, reliability and a genuine desire to make a positive difference to children’s lives.

The successful candidates will have:

  • A degree in Psychology, Education, Childhood Studies, Speech and Language or a related subject.
  • A genuine interest in working with children with additional needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A patient, calm and nurturing approach.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with children.
  • Reliability and a professional attitude.
  • A willingness to learn and develop specialist SEN knowledge.
