Graduate SEMH, Autism & Behaviour Support Assistant

Are you a recent graduate looking to gain hands-on experience supporting children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Autism, and behavioural challenges?
A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Streatham is seeking a motivated and compassionate Graduate SEMH, Autism & Behaviour Support Assistant to join their dedicated team. This is an excellent opportunity for graduates considering careers in Educational Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Child Psychology, Counselling, Social Work, Teaching, or Speech and Language Therapy.
Working closely with pupils who require additional support, you will play a key role in helping children develop positive relationships, regulate their emotions, and engage successfully in learning.
The Role
As a Graduate SEMH, Autism & Behaviour Support Assistant, you will:

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEMH needs, Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), and behavioural challenges.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils to support emotional wellbeing and engagement.
  • Implement behaviour support strategies under the guidance of the SENCO and class teacher.
  • Support pupils with emotional regulation, social skills development, and classroom participation.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and help create a safe, inclusive learning environment.
  • Assist with personalised interventions and nurture-based activities.
  • Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for graduates who:

  • Hold a degree in Psychology, Education, Criminology, Sociology, Health & Social Care, or a related field.
  • Have experience working with children or young people through schools, tutoring, youth work, mentoring, sports coaching, or voluntary settings.
  • Have a genuine interest in supporting children with additional needs.
  • Demonstrate resilience, patience, empathy, and strong communication skills.
  • Are considering a long-term career within education, mental health, or child development.

Previous experience supporting SEMH, Autism, or behavioural needs is advantageous but not essential.
