Job Title: Core Subject Tutor – Post-16 SEN Location: Greenwich
Setting: Post-16 / Further Education / Specialist SEN Provision
Contract: Full-time / Part-time / Long-term
Salary: Competitive (dependent on experience)
Role Overview We are seeking a committed and adaptable Core Subject Tutor to support Post-16 students with Special Educational Needs in the Greenwich area. You will deliver tailored learning in English, Maths and/or Functional Skills, supporting learners to build academic confidence, independence, and essential life skills in preparation for adulthood, employment, or further education.
Students may present with ASD, SEMH, ADHD, MLD, PMLD, and complex needs, requiring a flexible, patient, and person-centred approach.
Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging, differentiated lessons in Core Subjects / Functional Skills
  • Adapt teaching to meet individual learning needs and EHCP outcomes
  • Provide 1:1 and small-group tutoring support
  • Support learners with emotional regulation, motivation, and engagement
  • Monitor progress and provide feedback and reports
  • Work collaboratively with SEN teams, therapists, and support staff
  • Promote independence, employability skills, and positive learning behaviours
  • Maintain a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment

Requirements

  • Experience tutoring or teaching Post-16 learners
  • Strong subject knowledge in English and/or Maths
  • Experience working with SEN learners
  • Confident behaviour management and nurturing communication style
  • Patient, resilient, and adaptable approach
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)

Desirable

  • Teaching or tutoring qualification (PGCE, QTS, QTLS, or equivalent)
  • Experience delivering Functional Skills
  • Background in SEN colleges, specialist provisions, or alternative education
  • Team Teach / MAPA / de-escalation training
