BSL Teaching Assistant – Primary School | Lambeth | Full-Time | September Start Position: BSL Teaching Assistant
Location: Lambeth, South London
Contract Type: Full-Time, Term-Time Only
Start Date: September 2025
Salary: £100 – £104 per day (depending on experience and qualifications)
BSL Qualification: Minimum Level 1 British Sign Language

About the Role: We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate BSL (British Sign Language) Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Lambeth. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young learners, particularly supporting pupils with hearing impairments and additional needs within the classroom.
You will be working closely with the SENCo, class teachers, and specialist staff to provide tailored support—both in group settings and on a 1:1 basis. This role is ideal for someone with a passion for supporting children with SEN, and a good working knowledge of BSL (minimum Level 1 certification).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with hearing impairments
  • Use British Sign Language to aid communication and learning
  • Support class teachers in adapting learning materials to meet the needs of individual pupils
  • Foster an inclusive and positive learning environment
  • Assist with behaviour management and pupil engagement
  • Contribute to EHCP reviews and progress tracking where appropriate

Requirements:

  • BSL Level 1 qualification (minimum)
  • Experience working with children, ideally in a school or SEN setting
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • A patient, empathetic and flexible approach
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willing to obtain)
