Pertemps Education Network is currently recruiting for a BSL SEN Teaching Assistant to support a Reception-aged pupil with additional needs within a welcoming mainstream primary school in Lambeth.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced BSL Teaching Assistant, SEN TA or learning support professional who is confident using British Sign Language and would enjoy providing consistent 1:1 support within a busy Early Years classroom.

As a BSL SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the pupil, class teacher and wider support team to help ensure the child can fully access learning and participate in school life.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing 1:1 support to a Reception pupil with additional needs.
• Using British Sign Language (BSL) to support communication, understanding and engagement.
• Supporting the pupil to access the Early Years curriculum and classroom activities.
• Developing positive communication and relationships with the pupil.
• Supporting social interaction, play and participation alongside their peers.
• Reinforcing learning through appropriate visual and communication strategies.
• Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO and other professionals involved in the pupil’s support.
• Promoting independence, confidence and inclusion within the mainstream classroom.
• Maintaining a calm, patient and consistent approach throughout the school day.

We are particularly interested in hearing from candidates who have:

• BSL skills and experience using BSL with children or young people.
• Previous experience supporting children with SEND, either in a school or specialist setting.
• Experience working with children in EYFS, Reception or primary settings is desirable.
• A patient, nurturing and communication-focused approach.
• The ability to build trusting relationships with children.
• Good understanding of inclusive classroom practice.
• Strong safeguarding awareness and professional communication skills.

BSL qualifications are desirable, although candidates with demonstrable practical BSL experience will also be considered.
