About the RoleWe are seeking an Aspiring Speech and Language Therapist to work as a SEN Teaching Assistant in a primary school based in Lambeth, South London.

You will work 1:1 with a child who is non-verbal and has Autism, supporting their communication, engagement, and development throughout the school day. This role is ideal for graduates who want to progress into Speech and Language Therapy, Educational Psychology, or related SEN professions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Working 1:1 with a non-verbal autistic child
  • Supporting communication through visuals, routines, and structured approaches
  • Encouraging engagement, interaction, and expressive communication
  • Assisting with learning, emotional regulation, and sensory needs
  • Working closely with teachers and external professionals, including Speech and Language Therapists
  • Supporting the child’s overall wellbeing within the classroom environment

Ideal Candidate

  • A graduate (for example Psychology, Speech and Language Therapy, Education, Linguistics, or a related field)
  • A clear interest in Autism and supporting non-verbal children
  • Aspiring to train as a Speech and Language Therapist
  • Patient, empathetic, and resilient
  • Comfortable working 1:1 and building strong, consistent relationships
