Are you a qualified British Sign Language (BSL) Teaching Assistant looking for a rewarding opportunity to support deaf and hearing-impaired pupils in a welcoming primary school?
Our education recruitment agency is working in partnership with a friendly and inclusive mainstream primary school in Lambeth to recruit a dedicated BSL Teaching Assistant. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a vital role in ensuring pupils can fully access learning and participate confidently in all aspects of school life.
- Provide 1:1 and classroom support for pupils who are deaf or have hearing impairments.
- Use British Sign Language (BSL) to facilitate effective communication between pupils, teachers and peers.
- Support pupils in accessing the curriculum and achieving their individual learning targets.
- Adapt learning materials and reinforce classroom teaching where appropriate.
- Encourage independence, confidence and social inclusion.
- Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, Teachers of the Deaf and external professionals.
- Promote an inclusive learning environment where every pupil can thrive.
The Ideal Candidate
- BSL qualification (Level 2 or Level 3 minimum preferred).
- Experience working with deaf or hearing-impaired children in an educational or similar setting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patient, caring and adaptable approach.
- A commitment to supporting inclusion and equal access to education.
- Previous Teaching Assistant experience is desirable but not essential.
