School Business Manager
Hours: 35 hours per week (all year round), Monday to Friday
Salary: £50,574 – £53,607
Commencing: September 2025
Location: Greenwich
Following the retirement of the existing School Business Manager, the primary school is seeking someone who is passionate about:

  • Growing the school’s income, including developing innovative funding streams

About the School The primary school is a dynamic, creative, highly motivated, and passionate team based in the heart of historic Maritime Greenwich. The school serves a close-knit and truly diverse community, providing a rich, inspiring, and fully inclusive curriculum. The specialist provision for deaf children is wholly integrated, and all members of the community learn British Sign Language.
The school has a strong partnership with two other schools, and business managers meet together to support the work of individual schools and to drive partnership initiatives.
About the Role As the Business Manager, you will be a key strategic leader in the school, responsible for the effective and efficient use of resources. You will support the Headteacher and Governors in strategic planning and decision-making.

Job Responsibilities

Financial Management

  • Prepare, monitor, and report on the school budget
  • Ensure financial systems and procedures comply with statutory and local requirements
  • Manage payroll, banking, and invoicing processes
  • Oversee financial audits and ensure timely submission of statutory returns

Human Resources & Personnel Management

  • Support recruitment, induction, and retention of staff
  • Oversee contracts, payroll, and staff absence management
  • Ensure compliance with HR policies and employment law
  • Advise senior leaders on staffing and workforce planning

Premises & Facilities Management

  • Oversee maintenance, health & safety, and security of all school sites
  • Ensure compliance with safeguarding, fire safety, and building regulations
  • Manage contractors and service providers

Administration & Operations

  • Ensure efficient administrative systems and processes
  • Support operational planning for school events, trips, and daily routines
  • Maintain accurate records and reporting systems

Governance & Strategic Support

  • Provide financial and operational information to the Headteacher and Governors
  • Contribute to strategic planning and decision-making
  • Ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements

Income Generation & Funding

  • Identify and develop income-generating opportunities, including grants and partnerships
  • Manage lettings, fundraising initiatives, and community engagement projects

Other Responsibilities

  • Act as a key point of contact for external stakeholders
  • Lead and develop office and administrative staff where applicable
  • Support the Headteacher in implementing school policies and initiatives
